There is more to life than the stage. The musicians from Zic Zazou, for instance, have left behind the world of the stage and taken up residence in a kind of sound factory. There, amongst the bottles, tiles, railway tracks, saucepans, chairs, lamps and clocks, lies the proof that music can be created out of anything - as long as one knows how to handle it properly. The thunderous musical poem incorporates not only bongs and clanks and brrrrrs and rat-a-tat-tats but also punk, rock, funk and musettes. The whole thing rocks - and not only in the literal sense of the word!

Music can really be very uplifting. David Moreno´s grand piano, for example, hovers a full six metres above ground, and its lid becomes a cinema screen. Naturally, the film being shown is accompanied by Moreno on the piano at the same time, and to cap it all he also plays - live, please! - in the film and commentates on the action. To sum up, it can be said that "Floten Tecles" offers music, theatre, acrobatics, film, special effects, a hefty slice of comedy and a lovely dash of poetry, and with that, the night sky as the stage. You could not have a better example of the word "amazing".

stuffed puppet theatre - (nl)

The earth: desolated. Humanity: vanished. Only a colony of rabbits survived in their burrow - and with them, a man who believes he is one of them. The grand master of puppet theatre Neville Tranter packs psycho terror, sex and murder into his dark, grotesque tale in which rabbits and man continuously vie for position. A breathtaking, brilliant, often desperately funny tragedy with excellent puppet control - no hint of cuddliness.

The Seville Expo, the start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the anniversary celebrations of the Royal National Theatre in London: whenever it is a case of gently removing the stuffiness of an official event, the brass musicians Les Grooms are on hand to help. But they also like celebrating their art without dignitaries standing around, and play music lying on tram lines or gaily scale trumpeting statues and bus shelters. A way-out, brilliant combo with a thoroughly Frenchsense of humour.

The cogs creak into motion, the multi-toned tinkling heralds the opening sounds of the tower bells. But the show by the Catalan company has nothing to do with rotating couples in traditional costume. Tales of fools and knights are told here; of passionate conflicts, battles and loves, all brought to light from the machinery of the enormous life clock. Richly coloured, imaginative and brimming with anarchic humour, Time and Life are enacted here in a spell-binding work of precision.
"les filles rouge"
cacahuéte - (fr)

The anarchy-troupe from Paris, who have quite justifiably become famous round the world, is this time descending on us here in Graz with a strictly female cast of characters. The burlesque promenade is called "Les Filles Rouges", and in it five lively women jokily pass round the wine to music and dance, wittily joshing each other about a whole load of little stories and myths. Whoever accompanies the merry Bacchantes in their celebrations may look forward to an intoxicating view of downtown life. Guaranteed: You will survive them sober, but not sobered.
